Training cum Input distribution on “Improved package of vegetable cultivation” in Mawsiatkhnam village.

A training and Input Distribution Programme on the “Improved Package of Vegetables Cultivation” was organised in Mawsiatkhnam village on 19th February 2026. A total of about 25 farmers participated in the event. A lecture on the scientific cultivation of vegetables, including land preparation, nursery raising, care and management, harvesting, and value addition, was delivered. Based on interactions, the majority of farmers prefer to cultivate beetroot, cucumber, carrot, tomatoes, coriander, ginger, and other vegetable crops. The participants have also shown interest in cultivating exotic crops such as broccoli and pok choi, as well as fruit trees such as Khasi mandarin, lemon, peach, and guava. Vegetable seeds were distributed to the participants, including beetroot (6.5 kg), cucumber (200 g), coriander (10 kg), tomatoes (100 g), capsicum (200 g), chillies (80 g), carrots (500 g), radish (500 g), and lettuce (100 g). The participants' response was very enthusiastic, and their feedback indicated that such a programme has considerably enhanced their technical knowledge and exposure to vegetable cultivation and other potential crops in the village.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Heiplanmi Rymbai (Sr. Scientist & Co-PI), Dr. Anjoo Yumnam (Scientist & Co-PI), Dr. N. Uttam Singh (Sr. Scientist & PI), Ms. Phiyolyne Ranee (Field Assistant), Dr. M. Bishonath Singh (SRF) of the Farmers’ FIRST Programme.
